Training Objectives:

1.) Identifying ASD in children, adolescents and adults

2.) Understanding the continuum of ASD and co-occurring disorders

3.) Learning appropriate treatment interventions and considerations that improve social skills, executive functioning and emotional regulation

Description:Approximately a third of children, adolescents and adults with high functioning ASD are missed or misdiagnosed. This results in inappropriate interventions, unidentified needs, increased anxiety, depression, trauma and under-performance academically and vocationally. Attendees of this workshop will be presented with a comprehensive review of how high functioning ASD presents in children, adolescents and adults. DSM-V criteria will be reviewed and paired with case presentation. We will also explore the differentiation of the diagnosis based on gender. We will review the continuum of ASD and the co-occurring disorders that frequently present with the diagnosis and that cloud the diagnosis and clinical picture. Researched interventions that improve social skills, executive functioning and emotional regulation will be reviewed and discussed in detail.
